Portal

I was walking along the trail and looked over to see a caterpillar making a hole in an osoberry leaf. As soon as I saw the caterpillar, it stood straight up and became as still as a statue. It had a majestic air with its erect posture and its feet poised in front of its body. It felt like a sacred guardian was standing watch over a portal, a doorway that led to a deeper awareness of the interconnectedness of nature. How would I fit through this small hole? I became captivated by wonder as I watched the stillness and patience of this creature. Its body had a beautiful color, pattern, and shape. Its back feet were strong and had a sturdy grip on the leaf. It kept its posture and balance as the leaf swayed in the wind. After watching the caterpillar for a bit, I leaned back up to look around. I noticed the air was filled with singing birds, rustling leaves, rushing water, and buzzing insects. A light breeze swirled around with the sweet scent of flowers and it felt good as it brushed across my face. The light shimmered across the landscape of spring green. I looked back at the leaf and the caterpillar had disappeared. I said thank you and waved goodbye.

Nature is an inexhaustible source of wonder. I hope to see you out there.
